For Order Members
- How do I subscribe to a list?
- Send an email to [listname]+subscribe@lists.eastkingdom.org (for example, “laurel+subscribe@lists.eastkingdom.org” or “osc-discuss+subscribe@lists.eastkingdom.org”). Please include your SCA name and, if you’re a new order member, any helpful details regarding when you were inducted. This will help the list admin confirm that you’re a member.
- You’ll receive a confirmation email from lists.eastkingdom.org asking you to either reply or click the button to confirm your subscription. Do not click the button. Reply to the email from the same account you are subscribing to the list.
- Your request will go to the list admin for approval. You’ll receive another notification when your request is approved.

- You may also subscribe from the web if you are logged in to a Google account. Please click on the list name in the table at the bottom of this page and you’ll be prompted to ask to join.

- How do I unsubscribe from a list?
- Send an email to [listname]+unsubscribe@lists.eastkingdom.org (for example, “laurel+unsubscribe@lists.eastkingdom.org” or “osc-discuss+unsubscribe@lists.eastkingdom.org”). No approval is needed; you will receive a notification that you have been unsubscribed.
- What if I have an issue with subscribing?
- Contact the list admin at [listname]+manager@lists.eastkingdom.org (for example, “laurel+manager@lists.eastkingdom.org” or “osc-discuss+manager@lists.eastkingdom.org”).
- If you are not successful resolving the issue that way, please contact the East Kingdom Helpdesk at help@helpdesk.eastkingdom.org.
- Do I need to have a Google account or an East Kingdom account to subscribe?
- Not at all! Any email address can subscribe, whether it is part of the Google environment or not.
- Can I continue receiving digests of the discussion lists?
- Unfortunately not. Digest features require archiving, which compromises the confidentiality of the order lists. If you are concerned about receiving too much list mail, please contact your local webminister or the East Kingdom Helpdesk for advice on filtering your email – nearly every email provider and email client supports a wealth of filtering options.
For List Admins
- How do I know if people have asked to join the list I administer?
- You will receive an email to your East Kingdom account with each subscribe request. Hopefully, the requestor will include details to help you confirm that they are a member of the Order.
- How do I approve new subscribers?
- While logged into your East Kingdom account, go to groups.google.com. You’ll see a all the lists you’re subscribed to; go to the order list you are administering and click on the gear wheel. This takes you to the settings for that list.
- In the left menu bar, click on People -> Pending Members.
- Click the check mark to add a person to the group, or the “x” button to reject their request.
- What if I don’t see a person as a pending member?
- Usually this means they sent the subscribe request, but didn’t confirm their subscription (Google requires this step to prevent subscribe-spamming). Tell the person to respond to the earlier confirmation email, or, if they don’t have it any more, have them begin the subscription process again. (Note that you should see copies of both their initial subscribe request and their confirmation in your EK inbox – if you don’t see both, they haven’t done the second step!)
- What if a list member says they aren’t receiving messages?
- If their email has bounced at some point, Google may set them to non-delivery status. You can check this with these steps:
- While logged into your East Kingdom account, go to groups.google.com. You’ll see a all the lists you’re subscribed to; go to the order list you are administering and click on the gear wheel. This takes you to the settings for that list.
- In the left menu bar, click on People -> Members.
- Search for the person’s email address. Check that, in the “Subscription” column, it says “Each email”. If it says something else, there may be an issue with the person’s account.
